At UC Berkeley, Mateo studied Political Science with minors in Ethnic Studies as well as Public Policy. He graduated with honors. He spent many summers in Sacramento at the state capitol understanding the ins and outs of policy making. Mateo has also interned for the labor union UNITE HERE in San Francisco, and worked for the California Research Bureau analyzing the inequitable consequences the Covid-19 Pandemic had on communities of color. Mateo served as a student body senator while at Berkeley, predominantly representing the Latinx community on campus. Mateo hopes to find ways in which social mobility can be facilitated in the communities he’s a part of through public policy. Mateo enjoys playing sports and watching them, spending most of his free time at Giants, 49ers, or Warriors games.
