“Trust your gut when you need to be decisive.”
What is your connection with Coro?
I participated in the Coro Women in Leadership program in the spring of 2019. At that time, I was running my own consulting shop. I don’t think I realized it then, but while I found my work very satisfying I also found consulting to be a lonely endeavor. From the very first meeting of our WIL cohort, I had a supportive pod of professional women in my corner who were ready and willing to talk shop, strategize, and cheerlead. It was networking gold!
What is a memory from your Coro experience and training that you still think about today?
There are many! One that shines was the very first assignment – to bring an object to our first meeting that represented something significant about ourselves. It was the epitome of “show don’t tell,” and served as the catalyst for meaningful and interesting getting-to-know-you conversations out of the gate. The takeaway was that Coro had assembled a group with a huge range of professional and life experiences that we could all draw from right out of the gate.
What is one of Coro’s leadership principles, frameworks, or tools you continue to apply to your leadership practice today? For what reasons does this particular one stand out for you?
Think about why you are calling a meeting, take time to plan for the meeting, identify objectives and action steps, and follow up! We are all busy and time is precious. It is a sign of respect, an indicator of focus, and most productive if you take your colleagues’ time seriously.
What are the two most important leadership qualities that people need to create our shared future?
- Learn to actively listen. This will help you find the talent around you!
- Trust your gut when you need to be decisive. People generally appreciate it if you know what you want.
