When I applied to the Fellowship in 1959, I had no way of knowing that Coro would be with me for the rest of my life. The “Internship” as it was then called was definitely rewarding. I went on to serve as Chair of the Coro alumni association in the 1960’s and 1990’s. As a lobbyist in Sacramento over the years, I saw class after class come through, and I often provided the Fellows with background briefings.
What I learned and continue to learn from each class of Fellows, and now the Exploring Leadership participants, are two things: idealism and hope for our future as a people. This is why I continue to be involved in a myriad of Coro activities: Selection Days, mentoring, guest interviews, and very importantly, contributing money. I believe that I must give to causes in which I believe. The graduates of Coro programs are my gift and my hope for the future!
